I loved this book. I read it in a day.
I loved the deep connection that Mattie and Elizabeth (or Lisbeth). Mattie was always more of a mother to Lisbeth than her own mother wasy.
I can't believe that a woman could have so little regard for her own child. It seems her only concern was popularity and making sure Lisbeth married into the richest family she could. Love did not factor in on a marriage. It was all about what was best for the parents.
I am also shocked that her mother didn't even take an active role in rasing her. That to me seems so odd! I could never imagine just simply allowing someone to raise my child because I chose not to.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves historical fiction or loves to read of the pre civil war era.
